Flood water sensors that look like pipe bombs

FYI, from Michigan State Police

Flood Water Sensors

As we approach flood season, I thought I would resend this one:

Attached is an updated bulletin regarding flood water sensors which have been placed in various locations to measure flood water levels by the United States Geological Survey. As you can see, the items could be mistaken as some type of improvised explosive device so their discovery could generate a law enforcement or fire response depending on which agency has marine capabilities. Situational awareness should still cause one not to approach an unknown device of this nature without first confirming, through appropriate sources, the location of these sensors.

The closest one to us is at the river, Inkster south of Joy. See http://water.weather.gov/ahps2/index.php?wfo=dtx
